The Kroon Oil Scoogear gear oil is one of the best synthetic gear oils for scooters. This oil is also used by many scooter shops for the maintenance of the transmission of GY6, Vespa & Piaggio Zip.

Why change the gear oil on your scooter?

Changing the gear or transmission oil is one of the most important maintenance you need to do on your scooter. The transmission oil is a lubricant to keep the gears/transmission running smoothly. Because the gears make metal to metal contact, it is important that it is lubricated. The Scoogear 75W90 is specially designed for lubricating the gears of a scooter and has the best specifications. The oil reduces friction and dissipates generated heat.

What happens if you drive with too little oil?

If there is too little gear oil in the crankcase of your scooter, you run the risk of major damage. The gears then touch each other with metal on metal, without sufficient oil. This causes the gearing to start wearing out quickly and the heat is not dissipated. If you drive for too long with old or too little gear oil, there is a good chance that the gearing and/or crankshaft will have to be replaced. Replacing the gearing of a scooter is very difficult and requires specific tools, such as a printing press. In addition, it takes a lot of time, which entails high labor costs. A Vespa/Piaggio gearing already costs around €200,- excluding installation.

Therefore, do not save on this gear oil. It is better to change the oil too early/often, than too late. In addition, the Scoogear 75W90 costs very little and is therefore a minimal investment in your scooter.

What is the difference between 75W90 and 80W90?

Scooter brands sometimes recommend different oils.
This often has to do with the countries where the scooters are produced and ridden, as temperature is of great importance.
The difference between 75W90 and 80W90 is very small. 75W90 oil is slightly thinner at low temperatures, which is important for a cold start.
