Studs for exhaust Vespa/Piaggio

The cylinder of Vespa and Piaggio scooters has 2 studs where the exhaust fits in. With these studs you can close the exhaust well at the cylinder and ensure a good seal so that no air and noise escape.

Over time, the exhaust and studs will rust and deteriorate. Since it is located at the bottom of the scooter and gets a lot of water, salt and mud on it, it rusts even faster. When you want to disassemble the exhaust, it is important that the stud nuts can be easily unscrewed and that you can easily get the exhaust off the studs. This is the point where the studs often break off. The nuts will not come loose because they are rusted or stripped and the studs break off because they have become weak and are pulled with too much force.

Broken studs have to be drilled out again, while they are very difficult to reach and in the worst case you even have to get a new cylinder. You don't want this kind of misery and expensive costs, especially since the studs themselves are not that expensive. Save yourself a lot of hassle and replace them in time.

Replace the exhaust studs with 2 original Piaggio studs

That is why all scooter shops advise to replace the studs with 2 new and original studs every few years. You can simply unscrew the old studs, because they are simply there with screw thread. You then screw the new ones back in. The only thing you have to do is first disassemble the exhaust.
