What are vario guides?
Vario guides (also called ramp plate guides) ensure that the ramp plate stays in place in the vario. These are three plastic guides and they wear out quickly. Eventually they will also break, which will cause iron on iron. This must be prevented at all costs, because otherwise the vario will also have to be replaced.
The Scooter Shop therefore recommends replacing the vario guides regularly.
Only mount original vario guides in your Piaggio or Vespa scooter!
Why? Imitation parts often have a poor fit, are of different quality and can break faster.
The reason imitation parts are cheaper is because cheaper material is used and the production is less carefully done. This means poorer quality and therefore ultimately expensive.
When should you install new vario guides in your scooter?
- The vario guides are worn or damaged
- Every minor/major service
- Every 3,000 km
- Every 12 months
- When you remove the vario, for example to fit other rollers, a v-belt or variator ring

The vario guides also tend to break when dismantling. That is why it is wise to order an extra set as a spare. After all, vario guides do not have an expiration date!
