You can easily replace the brake fluid yourself and you don't have to leave it for the money. You don't need any extra parts or products. Only 1 bottle of brake fluid and some simple tools. This brake fluid can be used for almost all scooters and motorcycles.

This bottle is 250ml and is more than enough for 1 scooter.

It is important to replace the brake fluid every 2 years or when you have too little or no brake pressure. This is for your own safety, as you must always be able to brake hard and in time to prevent an accident. Especially as a vulnerable scooter rider without protective clothing. Brake fluid attracts moisture and after 2 years there is too much moisture in the brake line, which means it no longer provides sufficient brake pressure. In addition, the brake fluid is usually brown or even black, while it should be light yellow. So the color is also a good indication. Do not skimp on this important piece of maintenance. It costs almost nothing and you only spend 10 to 30 minutes on it on average.

How do you replace and refill brake fluid?

Fortunately, there are hundreds of videos on YouTube on how to easily do this yourself. But below we will explain it again simply and concisely.

Supplies:

  1. Tools (usually size 10 wrench and Phillips screwdriver)
  2. Collection container (cup, bucket or bottle)
  3. Hose for bleeding (can be ordered cheaply)
  4. Brake fluid DOT

Changing brake fluid:

  • Install a hose to the bleed nipple on the brake caliper.
  • Place the hose in a bottle, bucket or measuring cup to catch the old fluid.
  • Remove the brake reservoir cap (usually located on the handlebars).
  • Add new brake fluid to the brake reservoir until it is almost full.
  • Bleed the brake by pressing the brake, holding it, then opening and closing the nipple.
  • Do not release the lever until the nipple is closed again, then squeeze the brake lever again and repeat the process.
  • Continue this until the old brake fluid is in the collection bucket and you see the new clear brake fluid.
  • Do you see the new fluid and no bubbles? Fill the reservoir completely with new brake fluid.
  • Check the brake pressure and brake fluid level.
  • Put the lid back on and you're done!

Important tips when bleeding the brakes!

  1. Be careful not to get any brake fluid on your fairings, rims or paint. This will bite into the paint so make sure you cover and clean everything well.
  2. Make sure you always have brake fluid in the jar, so you never get air in the hose. Otherwise you have to start over. There should be no air in the hose.
  3. If you have enough fluid in the brake reservoir, you can also press the brake 3/4 times to speed up the process. More brake pressure will cause more old fluid and bubbles to come out.

About Kroon Oil brake fluid

Kroon Oil's DOT 4 brake fluid called Drauliquid-S is a synthetic brake fluid with the following properties:

  • Very low pour point
  • Does not affect seals
  • Minimal corrosion phenomena

DOT 4 can be used in all hydraulically operated brake systems equipped with both drum and disc brakes, where a DOT 4 brake fluid is prescribed. This is the case for almost all scooters, motorcycles and cars. The higher the DOT designation, the higher the boiling point. DOT 5 brake fluids are only required for heavy or fast vehicles.
