How do you recognize a defective fuel pump on the Piaggio Zip injection?

When you put a Piaggio Zip injection on the ignition (so turn the key) your engine failure light should come on briefly and you should hear a buzzing sound from the fuel pump. Is this not the case with you? Then the fuel pump is often defective. This is a known problem with the Piaggio Zip.

Often the pump works sometimes and sometimes not. When you hear it humming, the scooter probably starts. When it doesn't hum, there is no petrol in the line and it won't start.

A new fuel pump is often the solution. With the fuel pump you don't need any other mounting material, except a rubber o-ring gasket, but you can transfer that from your old fuel pump.
