This starter motor is 10-tooth and originally costs around €70 to €100. This item has the original Piaggio OEM code OEM: 96921R and fits almost all Aprilia, Derbi, Runner, Piaggio and Vespa 4-stroke scooters with kickstarter.

Is your scooter's starter motor broken?

Does your scooter make a strange noise when you try to start it electrically? Does it absolutely not want to start or does nothing happen at all? There is a good chance that your starter motor has failed. This part gives the bendix a good turn so that it can turn the starter ring. A defective starter motor ensures that you can no longer start the scooter electrically properly.

How do you replace the starter motor of a Piaggio/Vespa scooter?

This starter motor is secured with 2 bolts, often with a socket 8 or socket 10. The starter motor is located just behind the bendix, so just behind the crankcase cover, at the top. It is best to reach the bolts from the other side of the scooter (from the exhaust side). If there is a little space there, you can loosen the 2 bolts with a long socket and a ratchet or impact screwdriver.

Pull out the old starter motor and put in the new one. Secure it with the 2 bolts and make sure the electrics are reconnected. Often there is a ground wire on one of the bolts and a positive wire on the starter motor itself.
